Chapter 13
Really?
Goodnight?
That’s all the man could say or do?
She’d told him to stay. She’d been more than ready to sleep with him. She wanted him. Like she had not wanted anyone in the last one year. She loved him. Respected him. Melted into his arms every time he carried her like a baby, trying to support her movements.
And he’d left. And said only a measly goodnight.
Maybe he hadn’t wanted her. If he had, he wouldn’t just leave.
Such a fool she’d been. Thinking that Raymond wanted her as much as she did. But if he hadn’t wanted her, why the hell was he giving the wrong signals? Meeting her gaze, holding her close in the pretense that he was helping, fixing things around the house like a man who was doing every good deed to get laid.
The man was an idiot…
She rolled over to her side, keeping her thighs tightly closed together. She was going to force herself to sleep when she heard the door opened.
She sat up.
Her eyes fell on Raymond.
“What?” she asked.
He walked over to her side and sat opposite her on the bed, staring into her eyes. The stare was different. More intense.
“Mara,” he called with a deep sexy voice.
She felt emotions rushed through her and her whole body trembled at the vibrations his deep voice had caused. Her skin heated. Her breathing became shallow.
Just once, she told herself as she decided that she needed no more encouragement. She’d go after what she wanted. Him.
Just this once, she’d do this.
And never again.
But she’d to have it this one time, or she’d go mad.
She wanted to lean closer and kiss him when he drew her head closer toward his until their lips met. It wasn’t demanding or controlling— just gentle and almost needy.
Fames of uncontrolled need licked through her and she couldn’t help but respond. She lowered her back in pleasure, opening her mouth to feel him more deeply as he lay on top of her. “I almost thought you won’t make a move.”
He tilted his head to deepen the kiss. “I didn’t know if you want me to.”
Their kiss was just as intense and hungry as the other night they had dinner, but he seemed different somehow. He seemed more connected to her and less of pure lust. Or maybe that was just her imagination.
“Mara,” he said huskily, when he pulled away but just to press soft little kisses on the corner of her mouth. “Your ankle. Is it okay…”
She nodded and laughed softly.
“Good,” he said thickly and leaned down into another kiss.
When his hand reached for her nightie, she was already tugging it off. Her hands were still tangled in the dress above her head when he bent down, suckled one nipple in his wet mouth and covered the other with his palm.
“Damn! I miss those. They’re beautiful,” he said under his breath.
She smiled, flexed her back and leaned toward him, offering him more.
Feeling and sensation swelled up inside of her and she raised her hips to press against his hard body.
